Study design Flashcards
What is a prospective cohort study?
Start with exposure and follow over time to check for a particular outcome
What is a retrospective cohort study?
Start with exposure at a point back in time and follow up time to check for a particular outcome (endpoint = now)
What is a case-control study?
Start with outcome and look back to determine what factors made this more likely
What is a randomised control trial?
Interventional trial that is investigator controlled
What is a systematic review?
Presents all published findings on a specific research question
What is a meta-analysis?
Statistical analysis of results of several trials (plotted in a forest point)
What is the calculation for sensitivity?
True positives/total number with the disease (true positive + false negative)
What is the calculation for specificity?
True negatives/ total number without the disease (true negative + false positive)
What is the calculation for the positive predictive value?
True positives/ total number positive (true & false positive)
What is the calculation for negative predictive value?
True negatives/ total number negative (true & false negative)
