Heavy Pressure Blending
Generously add pastel in one direction and layer colors to achieve a blended and rich look.
Light Pressure Blending
Lightly add pastel in one direction and layer colors to achieve a variety of hues.
Color Mixing
Add a rich layer of color with another color applied on top. Continue to blend/layer additional color to achieve desired hue.
Stippling
Technique using small, choppy strokes to create texture. Layer additional colors for depth.
Scumbling
Controlled scribbled marks of oil pastel. Build up additional layer of colors.
Orthogonal Line
Parallel lines which appear to converge in linear (one-point) perspective.
Vanishing Point
Lines of an object extend to and meet at the vanishing point, which is on the horizon.
One Point Perspective
One central vanishing point. Rectangular forms are placed so that their sides are either parallel/perpendicular to the picture plane.
Two Point Perspective
Two vanishing points. Rectangular objects are positioned so that their faces are at an angle to the artist’s line of sight.
Horizon Line
Line that is considered to be at the artist’s eye level.
Vertical Line
lines straight up and down that are drawn at right angles to the horizon.
Nine Square
Technique that uses Rule of the Third. The Rule of the Third is a composition concept. The image is split into nine equal parts to help compose images with better proportion.
