Student Lecturer Disagreements Flashcards

1
Q

Jasmine is a student in a lecture when her friend, Eve, falls asleep and snores loudly, causing her to be woken by the lecturer who makes fun of her, Eve responds by showing a rude gesture, leading to the lecturer making a personal derogatory insult towards Eve. He said it quietly but she appears to have heard

How appropriate are the following
(1) accept that the actions that the lecturer was influenced by Eve’s disrespect behaviour
(2) challenge the lecturer immediately in his inappropriate language

A

(1) accept that the actions that the lecturer was influenced by Eve’s disrespect behaviour - INAPPROPRIATE BUT NOT AWFUL - as whilst Eve did provoke the lecturer there is no justification for such a comment to be made and it shouldn’t be accepted

(2) challenge the lecturer immediately in his inappropriate language - INAPPROPRIATE BUT NOT AWFUL - as it further derails the lecture, it would be more beneficial for you to speak to both of them after the lecture has concluded

Q

Manuel and Susan are med students in a lecture, the lecturer challenged Manuel for his mobile phone usage but Susan notes that he was very quiet and she barely noticed. It’s against university policy to use mobile phones in lectures and so he is asked to leave the lecture hall.

How important is the following
(1) that manuel was very quiet on his phone

A

(1) that manuel was very quiet on his phone - MINOR IMPORTANCE - if all usage is forbidden then it is left to lecturer digression to enforce the rules
