Situations Invloving Medical Procedures On Children Or Children Being Unaccompanied Or The Elderly Flashcards
Daniella is a medical student and is currently on placement in an A&E department and notices a 3 year old who is unaccompanied and crying. Daniella is currently escorting a patient with a sprained ankle to a private examination room.
How appropriate is the following:
(1) ask the receptionist to deal with the unaccompanied child so that she can deal with her patient
(1) ask the receptionist to deal with the unaccompanied child so that she can deal with her patient
- this is INAPPROPRIATE BUT NOT AWFUL as this is passing the buck or shifting responsibility, if Daniella is the first who notices the patient it should be her who deals with the situation.
A student is running late to an appointment with their academic tutor when they notice an unaccompanied elderly patient who appears to be lost
How appropriate is the following:
(1) highlight the hospital signage to the patient
(1) highlight the hospital signage to the patient - this is INAPPROPRIATE BUT NOT AWFUL as whilst this could realistically be a reason for the patient being lost, not correctly interpreting the signs, it’s rude and unnecessarily dismissive to not lend a genuine helping hand, their academic tutor would recognise this as a realistic reason to be late to the meeting.
