Structure of the Eye Flashcards
1
Q
Retina
A
- Consists of receptors (rods, cones), bipolar cells, ganglion cells, some others
- Light enters through pupil, then passes through eyeball to retina and cells, then strikes receptors
2
Q
Optic Nerve
A
Bundle of axons of ganglion cells, leading out back of eye to brain (leaving blind spot)
3
Q
Fovea
A
Central depression in retina where cones are most densely packed - most acute vision
4
Q
Rods
A
Very sensitive; black/white (achromatic); night vision; mostly in periphery
5
Q
Cones
A
Less sensitive; color (chromatic); daytime vision; mostly in fovea
