Structure Of Human Body Flashcards
Cell membrane
Forms the boundary of the cell; surrounds and protects the individual cell
The structure of the human body fall into 4 categories
Cells, tissues, organs, system
Cytoplasm
Makes up the body of the cell
Nucleus
Small, round structure in the center of the cell containing chromosomes and nucleoplasm,
DNA [deoxyribonucleic acid] and RNA [ribonucleic acid]
Chromosomes
Located in the nucleus of the cell; they contain genes determining hereditary characteristics
Muscle tissue
Produces movement
Nerve tissue
Conducts impulses to and from the brain
Connective tissue
Connects and supports various body structures: adipose(fat) and osseous (bone).
Divided into 4 general groups, connective tissue proper, cartilage, bone, and blood
Epithelial tissue
Found in the skin, lining of the blood vessel, respiratory, intestinal, urinary tracts, mad other body systems
Skin is an organ compose
Epithelial , connective, and nerve tissue
Nervous system made up
Brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Its function is to coordinate and control other body parts
Cytology
Study of cells including formation, structure, and function of cells
RNA ( Ribonucleic acid)
contained within the nucleus, is transcribed from DNA by enzymes and plays a crucial role in protein synthesis
Gene
Specific segment of base pairs in chromosomes; functional unit of hereditary
Mitosis
Cells divide and multiply to form two cells
