Structure of continental crust Flashcards
1
Q
How many layers are continental crust? What can alter the layers?
A
Continental crust is divided into three layers but geological processes can alter the layers
2
Q
What are the crusts?
A
The middle crust is made of migmatites
The lower crust is made of amphibolite’s and granulite’s
Upper crust is sediments, granitic laccoliths and crystalline basement
3
Q
What is the p-wave velocity in the crust?
A
- P-wave velocity is higher in the lower crust and lower in upper crust
- P-wave velocity in upper mantle is >8km/s
