Structure of cell membrane Flashcards
Phospholipids
fatty acid tails
phosphate group head
Phospholipids are the main molecule of which membranes are composed. They have a phosphate head with 2 fatty acid tails, negativley charged making it hydrophobic. The fatty acid heads are hydrophobic so they are attracted to water. The fatty acid tails orient themselvs away from the middle portion of the biylayer.
Transport protiens
Transport protiens are protiens that serves the function of moving other materials within a organisim. Transport protiens are vital to growth and life of all living things.
Cholestrol
Cholestrol is a lipid molecule that is embedded within the phospholipid biylayer of the cell membrane. It helps regulate the fluidity of the cell membrane
