Structure of Amoeba Flashcards
What should be labelled on a diagram of the structure of amoeba? (10)
nucleus, cell membrane, pseudopodia, waste product, fat droplet, food vacuole, cytoplasm, ectoplasm, endoplasm, contractile vacuole,
What is the protoplasm (living material in the cell) surrounded by?
A flexible membrane
What is protplasm?
The living material in the cell
What allows it to move from place to plasce?
The shape of cell is constantly changing to allow it to move.
What can the nucleus in amoeba do?
It can move about within the cytoplasm which itself is constantly flowing within the cell
What is the ectoplasm and describe it?
The outer cytoplasm (ectoplasm) is clear and relatively stiff.
What is the endoplasm and describe it?
The inner cytoplasm (ectoplasm) is grainy due to food vacuoles and waste materials.
It is more fluid than the ectoplasm.
What does the endoplasm contain?
It contains food vacuoles, fat droplets and crystals of waste products.
Explain the contractile vacuole
There is usually a large contractile vacuole present.
Sometimes a number of these vacuoles are found.
