What does the STEM do?
Stems connect the root to the rest of the plant.
The stem supports leaves flowers and fruit.
The stem carries nutrients and water from the roots to the other parts of the plant.
What do roots do?
Anchor the plant in the ground
Absorb water from the soil which are transported to the rest of the plant.
What do leaves do?
Leaves absorb the sunlight and use it to make food for the plant
Some plants leaves store water.
Most leaves have veins that carry water and nutrients from the roots.
What do flowers do?
Flowers make pollen to make seeds that will grow into plants.
Flowers attract birds and insects to spread the pollen.
Flowers make fruit and seeds.
What do seeds do?
Many plants make seeds. They are stored in different ways.
Inside fruit like peaches and pears
In pods like beans and peas
On a cob like a Mielie
Why are minerals important for a plant?
They keep the plant healthy.
Where do minerals come from?
They come from the soil.
What happens if a plant does not get enough minerals?
Their leaves will go yellow, pale and thin.
