Q

Explain the difference between carbon in the form of diamond and in the form of graphite and graphene

A

Diamond: Each carbon atom is joined to 4 other carbon atoms. The bonds between the atoms are strong and difficult to break. This makes diamonds very hard and has very high melting point, and that it is insoluble in water.

Graphite: Each carbon atom forms three bonds with other carbon atoms and they form layers that are able to slide over each other. This makes graphite a soft material that feels

Graphene: This is a single layer of carbon atoms. Strong good conductor of electricity
