Buccal Cavity function
Chewing, mechanical digestion , saliva moistens food. Amylase starts chemical digestion of carbs
Epiglottis function
Closes over the windpipe to avoid food getting into lungs( choking)
Oesophagus function
Passes down this aided by peristalsis (muscular contractions that pushes food down)
Stomach function
Gastric juices (acids and enzymes) added to food. Chemical digestion. Creates chyme
Liver function
Main role in digestion is the production of bile (emulsifies fats) to aid chemical digestion.
Gall bladder and duct function
Gall bladder stores bile ready for release. Duct releases it into duedenem
Pancreas and duct function
Release digestive enzymes into duodenum to aid in chemical digestion
Duodenem(small intestine) function
Chyme enters the here and is mixed with bile and enzymes from the pancreas. Chemical digestion continues.
Ileum function
Has villi to increase the surface area. This is where nutrients are absorbed into the blood.
Large intestine function
Water is reabsorbed into the the blood, faeces is produced.
Rectum and Anus function
Rectum stores for faeces, Anus is the outlet for faeces.
