Absorption Flashcards
1
Q
What is absorption
A
Refers to the movement of nutrients, water and electrolytes from the lumen of small intestine into the cell then into the blood
2
Q
What is assimilation
A
The movement of digested roof molecules into the cells of the body where they are used
3
Q
What is the villi
A
Finger like projections which increase the surface area of the small intestine to enable efficient absorption
4
Q
What is the lacteal
A
Lymphatic capillaries that absorb dietary facts in the villi of the small intestine
5
Q
Absorption happens using which two processes which ones?
A
- diffusion transports nutrients. (Sugars and amino acids) into capillaries
-diffuse fatty acids and glycerol into the lacteal
