Q

What is a strong acid?

A
Ionise almost completely in water
i.e. a large proportion of the acid molecules dissociate to release H+ ions - tend to have low pH
Examples
Sulfuric - H₂SO₄
Hydrochloric - HCI
Nitric - HNO₃

Q

What is a weak acid?

A
Partially ionise in solution
i.e. only a small proportion of the acid molecules dissociate to release H+ ions - pH tend to be around 2-6
Examples
Ethanoic -CH₃COOH
Citric - C₆H₈O
Carbonic - H2CO3
