Strong and Weak Acids Flashcards
1
Q
What is a dilute solution?
A
Contains a small amount of solute in a given volume of solution.
2
Q
What is a concentrated solution?
A
Contains a large amount of solute in a given volume of solution.
3
Q
What is a strong acid?
A
Ionise almost completely in water i.e. a large proportion of the acid molecules dissociate to release H+ ions - tend to have low pH Examples Sulfuric - H₂SO₄ Hydrochloric - HCI Nitric - HNO₃
4
Q
What is a weak acid?
A
Partially ionise in solution i.e. only a small proportion of the acid molecules dissociate to release H+ ions - pH tend to be around 2-6 Examples Ethanoic -CH₃COOH Citric - C₆H₈O Carbonic - H2CO3
