Strokes Flashcards
MCA - left side
motor/sensory - contralateral arm & face
right side neglect
MCA - right side
motor/sensory - contralateral arm & face
aphasia
ACA
motor/ sensory - contralateral leg
Anterior spinal artery
syndrome and what it affects?
symptoms?
Medial Medullary syndrome (often bilat) - paramedian ASA and verebral arteries
Lateral corticospinal tract, medial lemniscus, caudal medulla - hypoglossal nerve
Contralateral lower limbs, contralateral propioception, ipsilateral hypoglossal function
PICA Stroke
syndrome?
what it affects?
Lateral medullary syndrome
*Nucleus ambiguus are specific to this lesion
lateral spinothalamic tract and spinal trigeminal nucleus, SNS, inferior cerebellar peduncle
vomiting, vertido, nystagmus, decreased pain and temp to the face, dysphagia & horseness, loss of gag reflex, ipsilateral Horner’s, ataxia, dysmetria
“Don’t PICK A hOARSE that can’t eat” !
AICA
Lateral pons - many cranial nerve nuclei -
vomiting, vertigo, nystagmus
paralysis of the face, decreased lacrimation, decreased ant 2/3 taste, decreased pain/temp of face, ipsilateral hearing, ipsilateral Horner’s, ataxia, dysmetria
Posterior Cerebral Artery
Midbrain/ Benedikt Syndrome
affects occipital cortex, visual cortex
contralateral hemiaopia w/ macular sparing
Eyes down and out
Anterior Communicating Stroke
Berry aneurisms, visual field defects
Posterior Communicating
CN III, eye is down and out w/ ptosis and pupil dilation (anuerisms)
Most common locations for Charcot-Buchard Microaneurism (HTN induced)
B- Basal ganglia
T - Thalamus
C - Cerebellum
P - pons
Berry aneurisms
at the bifurcations in the circle of Willis
most common at the anterior communicating artery leading to a SAH
