What are the types of stroke?
- Ischaemic
- Hemorrhagic
What occurs with a stroke?
-Blood flow to the brain is stopped by a blocked/ ruptured blood vessel
What are the risk factors of a stroke?
- Increased BP
- Obesity
- Alcohol
- Smoking
What are the signs and symptoms of a stroke?
- Facial droop
- Arm weakness
- Speech
- Time
What is the diagnostic tests for a stroke?
- Blood test
- ECG
- CT scan, MRI
What is the treatment and care management after a stroke?
- Rehabilitation (Speech and physiotherapy)
- Hypertensive agents (Beta blockers, ACE inhibitors)
What are the complications with a stroke?
- Speech/ visual impairment
- Paralysis on one side of the body
What is the prevention of a stroke?
- Eat well
- Physical exercise
- Stop smoking
- Limit alcohol consumption
What do anti hypertensive medications do?
-Decreases a persons bp to decrease the risk of stroke or secondary stroke
What do anti platelet medications do?
- Inhibits thrombus formation.
- Decreased ability for blood to form clots
What do anti coagulant medications do?
-Reduce the bloods ability to clot
