What are the symptoms of carotid territory?
Weakness of face, leg, arm
Amaurosis fugax
Impaired language
What are the symptoms of posterior circulation?
Dysarthria, Dysphagia, Diplopia, Dizziness, Ataxia and Diplegia
What scoring system is used for stroke in emergency setting?
ROSIER
Recognition of stroke in emergency room
Why is losing consciousness in stroke so unlikely?
Have to have a Brainstem/Double Hemisphere stroke and be able to repair itself
What are some of the main RF for stroke?
Smoking
Anti-Coagulants (Haemorrhagic)
DVT (Paradoxical Embolus)
AF
HRT

What is one of the main first line treatments for stroke?
High Dose Aspirin
What investigations are done following a TIA?
MRI (and ECG and Carotid Doppler)
What are positive and negative features?
Positive: addition of something e.g. Tingling, floaters
Negative: removal e.g. Blindness, numbness
What term refers to why Lesions can be Forehead sparing?
Bilateral supranuclear innervation
What is neglect?
Pt with stroke forgets that e.g. arm is there. (May only eat half a meal)
