Q

How to perform longitudinal stretch?

A
  1. Put the target muscle or group into a direction of ease
  2. Choose a method to prepare the muscle
  3. Stretch the muscle to its physiologic or pathologic barrier, back of slightly
  4. Exert movement / pressure with inhalation and stretch on the exhalation
  5. Hold up to 30 seconds minimum

Q

How to perform alternate technique?

A
  1. Used if only small section of muscle needs to stretch, joint movement does not allow stretching
  2. Locate the fibers or muscle to be stretched
  3. Place hands, fingers or forearms in the belly of the muscle or directly over the area to be stretched
  4. Contract the muscle wit sufficient pressure to reset the neuromuscular mechanism
