Stress Response To Training Flashcards
1
Q
Periodization
A
- deliberate and systematic programming for an athlete
- cycles various aspects of a training program during a specific period of time
- not rigid
- ## controls stress and regeneration
2
Q
stress
A
- a stimulus that disrupts an organism from homeostasis
- stress is stress no matter what !
- same hormones released no matter what
3
Q
general adaptation syndrome
A
- 3 phase response to stress
- alarm, resistance, and exhaustion
- one - factor model
- theory of supercompensation –> optimal performance
4
Q
stimulus-fatigue-recovery-adaptation theory (SFRAT)
A
- advances the GAS model
- fatigue accumulates in proportion to the strength and duration of a stimulus, and then after rest, fatigue is dissipated and supercompensation occurs.
5
Q
fitness-fatigue model
A
- how stress from different sources interact with each other
- two-factor model
- for every stress applied to the body, there is a given fitness after-effect, as well as a fatigue after-effect
- different stressors will have different magnitudes on the fitness-fatigue relationship
- fatigue effect = increased benefit/severity and decrease in latency
- fitness effect = decreased severity and increased latency (not as significant, takes longer to show and lasts longer)
- after effect = specific to the stressor
6
Q
latency
A
- delay between cause and effect
- not as important in the fitness effect
7
Q
what else influences the stress response ?
A
- genetics influences half of the response to training stress
- prior experience (training age) shapes magnitude of stress response
- planned stress from RT is a small aspect
8
Q
monitoring internal load
A
- HR
- Blood lactate
- O2 consumption
- RPE
9
Q
how to monitor external load
A
- Distance
- speed/ accelerations
- accelerometry
- training time
- RT volume
10
Q
methods of monitoring
A
- GPS tracker
- bar speed tracker
- accelerometer
- force plate which is good for ACL monitoring
- RPE scale
- athlete monitoring apps
11
Q
collecting and analyzing data
A
- observe and collect A LOT
- chose measures that make sense, fit your budget, and are actionable
12
Q
keys to monitoring an athlete
A
- train and respond to the person Infront of you
- do not monitor for trends
- do not react reflexively , do not react for one quick change
- respect and work within limits
