performance modelling and exercise selection framework Flashcards
1
Q
system based approach of performance modelling
A
- “consciously organized” series of processes, arranged to accomplish a predetermined goal
- greater organization = greater transfer of training
2
Q
step 1: goal setting
A
- needs to be relevant and realistic
- comparable to team standards
- objective and quantifiable (actionable, working to achieve goals)
- include the athlete and the coach
- interdisciplinary approach, discuss appropriate goals together, not deciding for the athlete
3
Q
step 2: needs analysis
A
- biomechanical demands
- physiological demands
- normative data ( look within organization)
- injury epidemiology ( physical adaptations to overcome common injuries in their sport)
4
Q
step 3: designing a testing battery
A
- making sure what we are prescribing allows us to check and measure to see if it is the change we want
- compete with peers
- normative vs. peer data
- testing vs monitoring
5
Q
testing
A
- a one time observation
- can be good or bad
6
Q
monitoring
A
- changes over time
- informed
7
Q
step 4: exercise selection
A
- links to needs analysis and performance assessments (meaningful adaptations)
- timing of program (important for comp training)
- fine tune program
- have to be able to adapt if someone is unable to complete an exercise with proper technique, can regress to similar exercises and progress to the exercise and beyond
- athlete need to be comfortable and appropriate for their level
