What is Stress?
Acute pressure leads to specific reactions from nervous/endocrine system (fight or flight)
Hypothalamus responds- increases cortisol levels
What is burnout?
A process whereby a previously committed professional disengages from his or her work in response to stress and strain experienced in the job
What is resilience?
Resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy and threats
What are the 4 basic principles of resilience?
Awareness
-noticing what is going on around you and inside your head
Thinking
-able to interpret events in a rational way
Reaching out
-how we call upon others to help us meet the challenges
Fitness
-our mental and physical ability to cope with challenges without becoming ill
