stress
An individual phenomenom, subjective in nature and resulting from an excess of environmental demands.
Fatigue
Accumulation of unreleived stress
Common causes is insufficient good quality sleep, working too hard, or working too long without adequate rest.
Sleep
4 stages
1 = light sleep, 4 = heavy sleep.
REM (rapid eye movement) occurs adjacent to stage 1.
REM needed for good quality sleep. REM is reduced by alcohol. Fatigue is reduced most effectively by stage 3 and 4.
Naps
Plan 40-60 minutes. involves stage 1 and 2 and REM. May only last 10-15 minutes.
Refreshing affects of sleep
Waking up from stage 1 or 2 nap can be refreshing. If nap goes on longer, waking up from stage 3 or 4 is not refreshing.
Micro sleep
Nodding off. Not understood why, but appear to be benificial on tiredness.
Time to readjust to time zones
1 hour per day.
Bodies natural clock
If left to self regulate, body clock is 25 hours
