What is depersonalization?
-Depersonalization is an internal feeling of being disconnected from the self and body
What is derealization?
-Derealization is an external feeling of being disconnected from the outside world where everything feels dreamlike and not real
What is acute stress disorder (ASD) and its risk factors?
-A disability lasting 2 days-1 month
-Have extreme anxiety interfering with sleep and energy levels
-General withdrawal
-Risk factors= traumatic event, genetics, and female gender
What is PTSD and its risk factors?
-A disability lasting over a month
-Stems from a traumatic episode/series of episode
-Feeling extreme fear and/or helplessness
What is the treatment for ASD?
-Psychotherapy, with a 5 step critical incident stress debrief
-Short-term medication
-Sleep medication
What is the treatment for PTSD?
-psychotherapy
-CBT
-Medication, including antidepressants, antipsychotics, and sleep meds
Describe delayed expression syndrome
-At the time of diagnosis, ASD nor PTSD signs are present
-Then rapidly, sometimes intense PTSD symptoms can be seen
What is complex PTSD?
-Complex PTSD is the same as PTSD, but occurs due to reoccurring trauma (ex: child abuse)
-Will interfere with daily life and relationships (struggle to trust others)
-Have revenge fantasies toward abuser

-Fact phase
-Reaction phase
-Symptom phase
-Teaching phase

What is the 1st line PTSD treatment?
-Psycho- exposure therapy
-Patients are asked to go through visualization of trauma cues
-At the same time, they learn relaxation cues
-GOAL: extinguish the conditional fear response
