Stress-Biofeedback Flashcards
What does stress response include:
- Changes to heart and respiratory activity
- Alterations in muscular tension
- These changes are involuntary but it may be possible to learn to control them
Four steps to biofeedback machine and controlling and regulating symptoms of stress?
1-Electro codes are attached to your skin- person attached to machine that monitors and gives feedback on heart rate
2-They then send information to a monitoring box which translates measurements onto a computer screen
3-Person learns to control stress by deep breathing which slows heart rate and makes them feel relaxed
4-Relaxation acts like reward and encourages person to repeat this involuntarily
What type of conditioning does the machine use?
Operant conditioning- as the feedback and relaxation are positively reinforcing
Positives of biofeedback machine
- Objective measure
- Effective in children as well
