What is homeostasis?
natural state of equilibrium in which the body attempts to maintain constant reactions with external forces (fine balance)
What does GAS stand for ? definition?
general adaptation syndrome, body’s adaptation to sustained stress.
What is the first stage of GAS?
alarm reaction- fight or flight response.
What is the second stage of GAS?
resistance, stage of adaptation.
what is the third stage of GAS?
exhaustion and recovery
What is a stressor?
any type of threat, real or imaginal,
what is stress?
mental, emtional and psyschological response of the body to any situation that is new, threatening frightening or even exciting.
What is distress?
negative stress, unpleasant or harmful under which health and performance tend to deteriorate.
What is eustress?
positive stress, health, performance continue to improve even as stress increases.
What is the SRRS scale?
social-readjsutment rating scale, which is used to predict likelihood of illness.
