Stress Flashcards
1
Q
Pathophysiology of stress
A
A state of threatened homeostasis triggered by intrinsic or extrinsic adverse forces (stressors) and is counteracted by an intricate repertoire of physiologic and behavioural responses aiming to maintain/re-establish the option body equilibrium
2
Q
Local adaption syndrome (LAS)
A
- Short-term localized response intended to restore homeostasis to a body region or organ e.g. blood clotting, wound healing, pupillary response to light
3
Q
General adaption syndrome (GAS)
A
- Fight or flight response
- Protective response
4
Q
3 stages of GAS
A
- Alarm reaction
- Resistance (cope with stressors)
- Exhaustion
5

Hypothalamic-pituatiry- adrenal axis
6
Q
What does SAM stand for
A
Sympathetic-adrenal-medullary axis
