• life crisis - death in family or unemployment
•personality based - more prone to stress than others
•economic and social pressure - not enough money

[Release of adrenaline ( fight or flight ) ]
•Symptoms do not last long
•mind is alert and ready to deal w task ahead
•the more you do short term stress tasks , the easier and less stressful they become .

*when effects of stress persist / become long term , stress becomes negative and stops you from doing tasks to the best of your ability.

Why is it important to manage stress (hormones)

A

Stress leads to the release of cortisol and adrenaline .
> cortisol is a hormone produced by fear and RESULTS IN ANXIETY
> Adrenalin is a hormone to prepare body to react physically to a threat ( FIGHT OR FLIGHT )

•Therefore w/o stress management too much of these hormones are produced for too long therefore leading to physical symptoms and changes that lead to stress- related illnesses .

*Chronic stress ( stress that goes on for long periods of time) - linked to high blood pressure and heart disease and asthma attacks and negative effect on immune system therefore weaker resistance to infection as well as ability to recover

*should be dealt with in a calm and RATIONAL manner ( based on reason , logically )

Intra: within yourself
