Tachypnea which can be missed. Often times these young infants do not have typical rales or sounds of consolidation on auscultation
What are the differential considerations for infants in the first 24 to 48 hours of life exhibit respiratory symptoms?
Hyaline membrane disease and transient tachypnea
Is GBS infection screening 100% sensitive for the mother? Is it still possible that the infant can have group B strep infection after the mother has received intrapartum antibiotics?

What will grow the offending organism in newborn with respiratory illness?
Blood cultures or frequently grow offending organism
When she did Empiric antibiotic coverage be given?
As soon as possible AFTER culture fluids are obtained
What is that in Empiric antibiotic that should be given to newborns with respiratory symptoms?
Ampicillin 100 mg/kg/d divided every 12 hours if less than 1.2 kg or every eight hours for infants who are greater than 1.2 kg
Cefotaxime (Claforan) 100 mg/kg/d Divided every 12 hours or 150 divided every eight hours if greater than 1.2 kg or greater than 1 week old
Gentamicin can be added or use as an alternative treatment when there is no evidence of meningitis
