Stormwater terms Flashcards
raindrop erosion
raindrops that dislodge soil particles
Sheet erosion
uniform removal of soil without channel formation
Rill erosion
soil removal from concentrated runoff that forms many small channels
Gully erosion
highly concentrated erosion that cuts down into soil
Stream bank erosion
flowing water that erodes unstable banks
Erosion
land surface is removed by water or wind
sedimentation
the movement and settling out of suspension of soil particles
SWPPP
stormwater pollution prevention plan
1) construction best practices
2) sediment and stormwater plan
3) erosion, sedimentation, and pollution prevention plan
4) construction site BMPs
SWPPP components
1) stabilize
2) protect slopes and channels
3) promote infiltration (reduce IA)
4) control perimeter
5) protect receiving waters
6) contain waste
7) minimize exposed soils
Revulsion
a strong pulling or drawing back (withdrawl)
Accretion
Growing - generally the gradual and imperceptible accumulation of sediment
avulsion
when a stream suddenly breaks through a bank and forms a new channel or moves a lot of sediment to deposit it somewhere else - a sudden change of the stream path
alluvium
sediments deposited by streams because of a decrease in velocity
