A

both poems suggest power of nature is stronger than power of humans. Shelley describes the statue as a colossal wreck and refers to two vast and trunkless legs. Here is the use of juxtaposition emphasises how fragile and temporary human power is. Sibilance - sound of desert create eerie tone intimidating atm

The image of a shattered visage creates a sense of irony King, who believed to strongly in his own power, who tried so hard to percent, greatness through a statue has now been forgotten and destroyed by time

Shelley uses the desert surrounding the wreckage of the statue .

both have hidden political messages. allegorical poems. uses ozymandias as an allegry for king geogre. longest serving monarchy in that time .

Shelley structures his poem as a symbol of rebelling against the monarchy.
He has used some elements of Shakespearean sonnet and some elements of Petrarch and sonnet to symbolise idea of rebelling against Power and breaking strict rules - time of french revolution, where there was lots of insecurity surrounding monarchy and their positon.

poem has dual meaning. poem wa sinspired by arond island with little shelter so storms were fierce as middle of atlantic

could be read as an extended metaphor for the troubles in norhtern ireland. whicvh was a period of secratarian violence. ireland was partly ruled by britain. rc disageed.

the ira fought a gurilla war adn battles broke out everywhere.

title - stormont is the irish parliament , could hint at political messages. allergory for life under the troubles. no article is in the title so could show storms ort even battles are frequent. battles broke out on the street between civillians.

human power asgressive

‘wrinkled lip, sneer of cold command” disregard of subjects. shows danger of a single individual having unlimited power as it enables them to see others and inferior.

apathy is then paired with immense power which allows him to exploit those below him. grimacing in discust displaying his disregard ofr subjects.

Obsessed with how people view him which emphasises the arrogance. an allegory for King George the third, who ruled Britain in 18th century.
As a romantic poet, Shelley passionately believe that all human beings were equal and was opposed to the monarchy. However, it was extremely dangerous to express the views, so he has hidden political messages in their poems.

nature is agressive

“blows a full blast: you know what i mean”

plosives give a sense of violence and agression as though nature is attacking the islandf. plosives could resemble bullets. shows weather is as deadly as a weapon.

heaney uses coloquial language to emphgasise isolation as wanting to reach out. also trying to depict harsh reality faced.
