Q

What is a Closed system?

A

A closed system is one where transfers of energy happen both into and beyond the system boundary, but not transfer of matter.

Q

What is an Open system?

A

An open system is one where matter and energy can be transferred from the system across the boundary into the surrounding environment.

Q

What is dynamic Equlilbrium?

A

This is where the stores stay the same, because the inputs and outputs are balance a.k.a Dynamic Equilibrium.

Q

What happens if an input where to exceed and output?

What is feedback

A

When an input changes without any corresponding output change, the stores change, upsetting the equilibrium. This is called feedback

Q

What is positive feedback?

A

Q

What is negative feedback?

A

Negative feedback is where the effects of an action are nullified by its consequences and knock on effects.

Q

What is an example of Positive feedback?

A

Global warming melting ice - ice melting water - dark water absorbs heat - increases temperature - Global warming melts ice (again)

Q

What is an example of Negative feedback?

A

Temperature increase - Increased cloud cover - Reduces incoming solar radiation - Limits warming - Less temperature increase
