Stoichiochemistry Flashcards
What is a mole? and how is it related to avogardo’s number
A mole of something is refered to 6.022*10^23 times of something, which is known as avogardo’s number
How much does a mole of an element weigh?
A mole of an element will have the mass of it’s atomic mass in grams
eg. a mole of lithium will be 6.94g
how many moles of glucose are in a sample of 1.5kg, given that the molar mass of glucose is 180.156?
given that 1.5kg divided by the moles of glucose is equal to 180.156g, there are 1500/180.156 moles in a 1.5kg sample
If I have 50g of NaCl, and the molar mass of salt is 58.44g/mol, how many moles of salt do I have?
50/58.44
Think about it in reverse, if I have the mole, I would multiply g/mol to get the mass
What are electrolytes?
substances that disassociate in a solvent into ions, which allows the solution to conduct electricity
What is a solvent?
a solvent is a substance which solute is dissolved into, solvents are most commonly water
What is a solute?
a substance which is dissolved into a solvent
What is a solution?
A mixture of two or more substances
