Bacterium - chlamydia trachomatis

How is chlamydia managed?
Doxycylcine or Azithromycin
What are the symptoms of gonorrhoea?
Male
- urethral discharge
- dysuria
Female
- usually asymptomatic
- altered discharge
What is the causative organism of gonorrhoea?
Diplococcus - Neisseria gonorrhoeae
What are the complications of gonorrhoea?
Epididymo-orchitis
Prostatitis
Pelvic inflammatory disease
How is gonorrhoea managed?
IM ceftriaxone + oral azithromycin
What are the symptoms of syphilis?
Painless ulcer
Rash
What is the causative organism in syphilis?
Bacterium - treponema pallidum
How is syphilis managed?
Benzathine penicillin G
What is the causative organism of herpes?
Herpes simplex 1
Herpes simplex 2
What is the difference between herpes simplex 1 and 2?
1 = cause of oro-labial herpes
2 = more likely to cause recurrent symptoms
What are the symptoms of herpes?
Painful ulceration
Dysuria
Fever
Myalgia
