- motivational interviewing: increasing motivation when people are not thinking of change
- problem focused counselling: identifies causes of problems that prevent change
- modelling and rehearsal of change: improving skills and self-efficacy to achieve change

What are some ethical issues with screening?
A
by screening people and telling them they are healthy you can disproportionately shift the health dependency onto health experts and technology and social determinants of health (belonging, competence, mastering and well-being) disappear

What must health promotion follow in order to be ethically defensible?
A
- it should alter the natural history of diseases
- must be approved by the patients

What is the best method of health promotion?
A
- decisional aid: working with the patient to together make a decision (rather than telling them)
- give people information to make an informed choice
- provide pros and cons
- however effects of decisional aids are unknown and controversial
