What is an STI
Sexually Transmitted Infection
Infections that are spread through intimate contact with someone who is already infected.
Transmitted through oral, anal and vaginal sex and by skin-to-skin contact with an infected area or sore.
3 types of STI
Bacterial
Viral
Parasitic

Pubic lice, scabies; bug will attach itself to the host
Curable with creams/antibiotics
Viral
Genital herpes, HIV, Hep B, HPV
Incurable with any medication
Will have this virus for life
Bacterial
Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis
Curable with treatment

Discharge – different or heavier fluid/mucous
Foul odor
Itching around the reproductive organs or anus
Bumps or swollen glands around groin area
Blisters or open sores
Pain or burning feeling while urinating
No symptoms at all [asymptomatic]
You can pass an infection to someone else and not even know that you yourself were infected!
How to reduce risk of STI
Abstinence
No sex
Vaccinations

Use condoms
Proper use of latex condom
EVERY time you have sex
STI checkup
Choose partner carefully
A monogamous long term
mutually faithful relationship
