A
- Prednisolone (oral)
- Beclometasone (inhaled)
- Budesonide (asthma/lower GI)
- Hydrocortisone(cortisol)
2
Q
Mineralocorticoid
A
Fludrocortisone
3
Q
Glucocorticoid MOA
A
- Intracellular alteration of gene transcription; takes days
- inhibit COX-2 synthesis and inducible nitric Oxide synthase
- Inhibit cytokine and chemokine synthesis
- Stimulate productino of lipocortion(inhibits PLA2 and prostaglandin synth)
4
Q
uses for glucorticoids
A
Anti-inflammatory/immunosurpressive
- Allergic/septic emergency - IV
- Asthma, COPD - Inhaled, oral
- UC, Chrons - Oral rectal
- RA - Oral
- Skin, eczema, psoriasis
- Organ transplant
- Rhinitis, conjunctivits
Replacement therapy
- Addisons - lifelong 20 mg hydrocortisone Am, 10mg Pm + fludrocortisone
Others
- Neoplastic
- Pre-term labour (enhance fetal lung maturation)
5
Q
Glucocorticoid side effects
A
3+ weeks
- Diabetes
- osteoporosis
- mental
- Peptic ulceration
- Visual
- Cushings
- Supression of growth (children)
- Adrenal supression; in sudden withdrawal
- Infections
6
Q
Mineralocorticoid effects
A
Aldosterone-type effects lead to:
- Sodium and water retention
- Potassium looss
- hypertension/worsen CHF
