Sterile Compounding Flashcards
air changes per hour
the rate at which the air is vented to the outside is measure in air changes per hour
ante area
space directly adjacent to the buffer area where non sterile activites related to sterile compounding are performed, like reviewing orders, storing sterile drug stock, garbing, and hard washing. ante must be at least ISO 8 (+), ISO 7 (-)
aseptic technique
aseptic means free of microorganisms and other contaminants
BUD
date or time after which sterile product shouln’t be used. depends on CSP risk level and nstorage temperature
buffer area
the area where the PEC is located. must be at least ISO 7
biological safety cabinet
negative pressure hood that is used to prepare hazardous (chemo hood)
coring
after a needle is inserted through the rubber stopper of a medication vial, small piece of the stopper is sometimes sheared off and gets pushed by the syringe into the solution
negative pressure
net airflow is flowing inward in order to protect teh staff from toxic drug fumes and vented to the outside (HZ)
positive pressure
net airflow is flowing outward to prevent contamination of the CSPs
PEC
hood ISO 5
SEC
ante and buffer area
segregated compounding area
space designated for compounding that has unclassified air. has < 12 hr BUD
