What do stereotypes tend to do?

They tend to make the person doing the stereotyping feel superior to that particular group. They also tend to mask the individuality of a person if they are part of a stereotyped group.

Stereotyping has been around for a long time. Humans are a naturally judgemental race, and often make assumptions as to the characters of people.
