Stephens - L4 Flashcards
What does the ansa cervicalis arise from? Where does the superior root come from? Where does the inferior root run?
Arises from C1-C3
Superior root comes from hypoglossal n (XII)
Inferior root crosses the IJv
Talk about the phrenic n.
Seen anterior to the ant scalene m Innervates the diaphragm Transverse cervical and suprascapular aa run over it Accompanied by ascending cervical a Travels posteriorly to subclavian v Unilateral paralysis causes no sx
What 2 things run through the interscalene triangle?
Subclavian a and the Brachial Plexus
Ant scalene syndrome can compress the BP which is bad
Define GSA.
General Somatic Affarent, fibers that convey sensory information
Define GVA
General Visceral Affarent, fibers that convey sensory information from viscera/organs
Vagus n is a HUGE players in GVA (Gvagus..)
What does the vagus innervate with GVA fibers?
Posterior 1/3rd of tongue all the way down to the transverse colon
Define GSE.
General Somatic Efferent, fibers that innervate muscle of myotomic origin
Define GVE.
General Visceral Efferent, fibers associated with symp and parasymp divisions of the ANS
These fibers course through CNs: 2, 7, 9, 10
Define SVA.
Special visceral affarent, olfactory smell and taste info
Define SVE.
Special Visceral Efferent, innervates the muscles from mastication , facial expressions, larynx and pharynx
What is the Trigeminal Sensory Nucleus?
GSA sensory nucleus for all sensations to the face
Involved CNs: V, VII, IX, X
What is the Solitary Nucleus (NTS)?
SVA and GVA, sensory nucleus for general sensations from posterior 1/3rd of tongue to transverse colon
CNs involved: VII, XI, X (big one)
What is the Dorsal Motor Nucleus?
Sends pre-gang fibers to ganglia in the: larynx, pharynx, thorax, abdomen
Sends post-gang fibers to glands and smooth m in these regions
CN involved is VAGUS N (X)
What constitutes the SVE column?
CNs: V, VII, IX, X, XI
What are the superficial cranial nn? Where do they arise from? What do they innervate?
Lesser occipital n
Greater auricular n
Transverse cervical n
Supraclavicular n
Arise from C2-4
Innervate skin
