Q

Forward port de bras

A

Standing, arm in second, other hand on barre. Just before bending, there is a slight lift in the spine. As bend forwards, reaching forward with a natural spine (not flat back or rolling through). As they reach the bottom of their port de bras, their arm should reach en courronne, not passing the centre line of the body. As arms reach en courronne, it’s like it pulls the body up (don’t come up before), coordinating the coming up with a natural back (again not flat, not rolling through). Once back standing, arm goes from en couronne, rotating in the scapula back to its neutral position to bring the arm to second.

Q

Sideways port de bras

A

Just before, slight lift in the spine, bring arm from second to en couronne, with the movement originating in the scapula rotating. As reach height of en couronne, head looks over towards the barre. With an up and over feeling, lengthening through the core (obliques), lean towards the barre, with shoulders staying square, and not sitting into the opposite hip - not letting the arm in en couronne cross the centre of the body (not reaching across face with arm).

Rond de jambe en l’air

A

En dedans: Extend leg out straight out to 2nd (controlled grand battement movement), turned out and foot pointed. Isolating the movement below the knee, not moving the thigh, bring the toe into the side of the knee, as if drawing a small circle on it with the toe (v. small movement). With a very slight rotation below the knee, without moving the thigh, extend the leg slightly forward and back out to 2nd.
En dehors: Extend leg out straight out to 2nd (controlled grand battement movement), turned out and foot pointed. ith a very slight rotation below the knee, without moving the thigh, extend the bottom half of the leg slightly forward, bring the toe into the side of the knee, as if drawing a small circle on it with the toe (v. small movement) and straight back out to 2nd.

Q

Fouette of adage

A

Leg extended en l’air a la seconde (at least 90°). 3 pivots - pivots come from heel very slightly coming off the ground and rotating around, maintaining the turnout in the supporting leg, straight legs at all times - body moves with the supporting leg from facing en face/sideways to the barre, to the side/facing the barre. First pivot, the working leg comes forward with it slightly, so as to allow for the second and third pivots, the working leg to continue to rotate in the hip socket, with the pelvis tilting anteriorly, to an arabesque position, retaining the same height of the working leg.

Tendu

A

Devant: Extend to front using a straight leg, using floor pressure to go through the demi-pointe to a full extended pointed toe, leading with the heel to maintain the turnout. Toe should be in front of nose. Reverse this motion, with a straight leg, using floor pressure to go back through the demi-pointe to flat as reach the starting foot position, leading with the pinky toes.
Derriere: Extend behind using a straight leg, using floor pressure to go through the demi-pointe to a full extended pointed toe, leading with the pinky toe, to maintain the turnout. Toe should not be too wide, or over crossed - straight out from hip. Reverse this motion, with a straight leg, using floor pressure to go back through the demi-pointe to flat as reach the starting foot position, leading with the heel.
A la seconde: Extend to the side (continuing line of turnout from their first position) using a straight leg, using floor pressure to go through the demi-pointe to a full extended pointed toe, keeping their heel to the floor, to maintain the turnout. Reverse this motion, with a straight leg, using floor pressure to go back through the demi-pointe to flat as reach the starting foot position, keeping their heel to the floor.
