What is a statute/ act and what are examples?
Authority given to FSIS for regulation of meat, poultry, and egg by congress
e.g Federal meat inspection act (FMIA), Poultry Products inspection act (PPIA), egg products inspection act (EPIA)
What is an adulterated product and what are examples?
Adulterated: any poisonous or deleterious substance that may be injurious to health
- Pesticides, chemicals, food additives, color additives that are prohibited or considered harmful
- Produce is filthy, putrid, or decomposed
- Product is prepared, packed, or held in insanitary manner
- Animal has died prior to slaughter
- Product container contains poisonous or deleterious substance
- Product was exposed to radiation, unless this was confirmed
- Any valuable constituent of the product in whole or part omitted

- Have no expiration. Are followed until they are rescinded/ replaced

- Instructions to FSIS inspection personnel to address particular problems
- Identified by number of questions from specific field topic
- Have an expiration date
