what is statute law
A
laws made by parliament
(aka acts of parliament, legislation)

strengths of statute law
A
- provides an explicit and robust protection of certain human rights
- statutes allows injured parties to seek a remedy if they have been mistreated -> discourages breaches of rights
- parl can pass statutes to protects HR when they feel the need arises - this allows rights protection to evolve as community standards change

weakness of statute law
A
- difficult to prove that a decision was made or words were said based on discriminatory ideas
- interpretation of certain rights in statute may differ
- parl can pass new laws or amend laws that remove HR previously protected in legislation - these rights are not enshrined in the constitution
