what is statute law
statue law is law made by the parliament. these laws are called a legislation or an act. all parliaments in Australia have the power to make statute law. the constitution sets out these powers for federal and state parliaments.
about the parliament
it is a body of elected representatives. it debates bills, deciding to pass, reject or amend them. other than QLD all parliaments in Australia are BICAMERAL, meaning they have two houses
house of representatives
also known as the lower house is the most important. led by the prime minister, they serve for three years and there are 151 seats
Senate
or the upper house, each state has 12 senators and territories have two. they are called the state’s house and they are a house of review as they review the bill passed to them by the lower house. (review the bill after the lower house passes it)
