A

they are the responsibilities of the parliament/ the government has the power to make laws about these areas. there are three divisions
exclusive- federal
concurrent - federal and state
residual- state

what does each division look after

A

exclusive looks after immigration, marriage, customs laws, income tax etc
concurrent - health & education (the federal government funds the state government to run these), roads
residual- curriculum, law and order (police and courts), surrogacy + adoption + IVF

Why is the separation of power important

A

it is crucial to keep the rules separated so the rule of each law is not violated. each one keeps a check and balance on the other. it is important because it helps the balance of power in the government. it is fundamental in reducing the possibility of tyranny.
