Stats Tests Flashcards
Standard deviation
A measure of how spread out the data is. The greater the spread the greater the standard deviation.
Student T-tests
Used to find out if there is a significant difference between two sets of data
Degrees of freedom equation
(n1-1)+(n2-2)
Use this a to find the p value for all T-tests
Unpaired T tests
Compares results from different individuals (e.g. two crops from different fields)
Spearman’s Rank Correlation coefficient
Used to assess the strength of a correlation between two continuous or ordinal variables that can be ranked
Null hypothesis
There is no significant correlation/difference between…
Alternate hypothesis
There is a significant difference/correlation between…
Simpson’s index of biodiversity
A better measure of biodiversity as it takes into account t species richness and species evenness
Always results in an answer of 0 to 1, with 0 being no diversity and 1 being infinite diversity
The greater the value the greater the diversity
