statistics
Categorical/nominal data
when variable are measured using categories or names.
Continuous/interval scaled
when variables are measured using numbers along a continuum with equal distances, or values, between each number along the continuum.
Dependent or paired sample t-test
a test of the statistical similarity between the means of two paired or dependent samples
Independent samples t-test
A test of the statistical similarity between the means of two paired or dependent samples.
Matched, paired, dependent samples
when each core of one sample is matched to one score from a second sample. Or in the case of a single sample measured at two times, when each score at time 1 is match with the score of the same individual at time 2.
matched, paired, dependent sample t-test
test comparing the means of paired, matched or dependent sample on a single variable.
reliability
can measure
validity
more “philosophical” as its how well they take care of confounding variables, think “internal validity”
content validity
did the test cover all of the period
Criterion validity
how well a test measures what it is supposed to meaure.
concurrent
does the test correlate with other tests we have given in the past.
predictive
does the test predict future performance
Construct Validity
Convergent
how well does the test correlate with other tests that are supposed to measure the same thing (like concurrent validity)
discriminant
test is not correlated with dissimilar measures
