Statistics Flashcards
Descriptive Statistics
The concern of descriptive stats is to organize, describe, quantify and summarize a collection of actual observations.
Inferential Statistics
Researchers generalize beyond actual observation. They make inferences from the sample involved in the research.
Frequency Distribution
its a representation on of how often each value occurs
Mean
this the arithmetic average of the statistical data
Median
The Middle Value when observations are ordered.
Mode
This is the number that occurs most frequent.
What the difference between Mean, Median and Mode ?
see cards 4,5,6
Bimodal
The data that has 2 modes are bimodal
Range
the smallest number in the distribution subtracted from the largest number.
Standard Diviation
This measures the DISTANCE of the score from the mean
Variance
This the Square of the standard deviation
Percentile
if you know how many STD away from the mean the score is then you can determine the percentile
Z-score
indicates the number of STDs your score is away from the mean
To determine the z-score subtract the mean distribution from your score and divide the difference by the STD
negative z-scores fall below the mean
Positive Z-scores fall above the mean
Normal distribution
Scores that fall within 68% and 98% they are within 1 and 2 STDs
Correlational Coefficient
The relationship that 2 or more variables has effect on its association by each other.
Positive Correlation
this means that the change in the value tends to be associated with change of another variable in the same direction.
Negative Correlation
this means that the change in the value tends to be associated with change of another variable in the OPPOSITE direction.
scatter plot
The graphical representation of correlated data .
Factor analysis
Review With TUTOR.
Significants test
This is a tool that researchers use to tell the significance of the test in trying to disprove different hypothesis
Research Hypothesis/Alternative Hypothesis
This is supported by the DATA showing that other possibilities exist.
Null Hypothesis
This is DATA inconsistent with the data collected
Statistical Signifiants
When the NULL HYPOTHESIS is REJECTED this is where we can say that the test significant
