Research Design Flashcards
What is the connection between a “hypothesis” and Variable?
A testable explanation between 2 or more variables
“Variable”
Changes in amount and Semantics
Dependent Variable
amount thats being measured in experiment. eg Spelling test performance.
Independent Variable
Manipulated amount. eg Breakfast Type
Operational definition
Defining how your going to be using your variables.
True Experiments
Independent Variable (IV) manipulated Subjects randomly assigned to groups
Quasi Experiment
Independent Variable (IV) Manipulated Subjects NOT randomly assigned to groups
Correlational
Independent Variable (IV) is not Manipulated
Naturalistic Study
Researches does not intervene, measures behavior as it naturally occurs.
Significance Testing Processing
Step 1:Formulate alternative and null hypothesis based
on your research hypothesis
Step 2: Decide on a criterion of significance(.05)
Step 3: Collect data
Step 4: Perform significance test on your data in order to
obtain the significance level
Step 5: compare obtain significance level to Criterion of
significance. if the significance level is less than
the criterion of significance. the results are
significant. otherwise they are not.
Step 6: if the results are statistically significant, reject the
null. If the results are insignificant, accept the null
Type 1 Error
Null is true.
Reject null
Accept : Correct decision
Type 2 Error
Null is False
Accept : Correct decision
Type 2
Chi-Square test
These are test that work with categorical data:
This where you are summarizing categorical data
