Populations and Samples Flashcards
Populations
The group which researchers wish to generalize results
Representative sample
The sample that matches as many characteristics as possible to the population as a whole
Random Sample
Every population member has a chance to be selected for the sample
Stratified random samples
Relevant Subgroups of the population are randomly sampled in proportion to size
Whats the difference between Within subject design and Between Subject design?
Between-group design is an experiment that has two or more groups of subjects each being tested by a different testing factor simultaneously.
Within Subject an experiment in which the same group of SUBJECTS serves in more than one treatment(IV).
Matched Subject Design
matched-subjects design, which is when subjects are matched on some variable that might be affecting the dependent variable and then split into two or more groups.
Cofounding Variables
unintended Independent variables that are used to discount any other variables that could potentially affect the DV.
Control Group
Eg: This group has no protein
Experimental Group
Eg: This group get Protein
NON-equivalent group design
Eg: focus groups to improve lesson effectiveness
one group get new plan
one group gets old plan
