Statistics Flashcards
What is the product rule?
The total number of outcomes for two or more events is equal to the number of outcomes for each event multiplied together.
What do we use to refer to all the possible outcomes of an experiment?
A sample space diagram.
What is the equation for calculating probability?
Number of ways in which an outcome can happen ÷ Total number of possible outcomes
What is the word scale for probability
Impossible (0)
Unlikely (0.25)
Even chance (0.5)
Likely (0.75)
Certain (1)
How do we calculate expected frequency?
Probability x Number of trials
How do we calculate relative frequency?
Number of times an outcome happened ÷ Total number of all outcomes
How do we get a more realistic (close to the true value as possible) value for relative frequency?
A large number of trials.
What are independent events?
Events whose probability is not affected by the outcome of previous events.
